Aaron Rodgers wants out of Green Bay and could be on the move.
Adam Schefter reported just hours before the 2021 NFL Draft that the Packers quarterback does not want to return to the team. Schefter also mentioned that Green Bay’s front office even took separate flights out to visit with Rodgers to clean up the issues. It obviously didn’t work.
Hours after the Schefter’s report, Mark Schlereth of 104.3 The Fan reported “I’m hearing Aaron Rodgers to the Broncos is close to a done deal.”
Moments later, Schlereth said on air that Rodgers texted him asking who is source is. Schlereth then asked Rodgers if the news was true about him and the Broncos. Rodgers responded by saying that they’ll find out together.
Rodgers has reportedly been seen in Boulder, Colo. over the past year with his fiancé, Shailene Woodley. It also should be known that Woodley apparently owns a house in Boulder as well.
Pro Football Talk also reported that as of this week, Rodgers’ wish list consisted of the San Francisco 49ers, the Las Vegas Raiders, and the Broncos. The report also mentioned that Rodgers really wanted the Packers to take the offer made by the 49ers before this year’s NFL Draft.
San Francisco general manager John Lynch said he called Green Bay before the draft saying, “Yeah we inquired. It was a quick end to the conversation. It wasn’t happening.”
The 49ers ultimately selected quarterback Trey Lance with the No. 3 overall pick in the draft.
The Los Angeles Rams also made calls to Green Bay before they eventually traded for Matthew Stafford from Detroit.
According to Trey Wingo, the Packers told Rodgers they were going to trade him in the offseason, then backed off.
Rodgers has been furious with the organization for some time now and it really escalated last year, when Green Bay traded up in the first-round to draft quarterback Jordan Love without telling Rodgers beforehand.
The Packers will continue to say that they won’t trade him for now, but if they do they would likely have to make the trade official after June 1. If the 2020 MVP is traded before that date, he would count $38.35 million against the cap. A trade after June 1, would yield a $21.15 million hit against the cap this year, and $17.2 million against the cap next year.
After the first-round of the NFL Draft, Denver general manager George Paton was asked if he spoke with Green Bay about Rodgers. The response, was completely dodged as Paton said he would rather focus on the draft.
It will only be a matter of time before Rodgers is out of Green Bay and with the offensive weapons Denver has, it seems very likely that Rodgers could be wearing orange and blue next fall.
