Deion Sanders, aka Coach Prime, has never been one to shy away from speaking his mind and making bold statements.
Sanders’ latest headline-grabbing interview came last Friday on “Million Dollaz Worth of Game“, a Barstool Sports podcast. In his appearance, Sanders gave multiple quotes that sent social media into a frenzy.
When asked about the NFL futures of his son Shedeur Sanders and two-way star Travis Hunter, the Colorado Buffaloes coach didn’t mince words.
“I know where I want them to go. So, it’s certain cities that ain’t going to happen. It’s going to be an Eli,” Sanders said.
That quote was obviously a direct reference to Eli Manning, who was originally drafted by the San Diego Chargers before being traded to the New York Giants on Draft day. Manning made it clear he had no interest in playing for the Chargers organization.
Sanders would go on to mention San Francisco, Dallas, Washington, and Baltimore as cities that would be potential fits for his two star players.
The portion of the interview that was quite possibly the most head-scratching, however, was when Sanders made a bold projection on how high his two polarizing stars would go in the Draft.
“Top four. Anywhere from one through four,” Sanders said when asked for his prediction on where Shedeur and Hunter would be selected. “One of them is going to be number one. And the latter one would not go behind four. Now, all this is subjective because I know where I want them to go, and let’s not forget Shilo [Sanders]. But I know where I want them to go, and there are certain cities that ain’t going to happen.”
With all due respect to Coach Prime — while both players undoubtedly have NFL futures, at this point in time, it’s hard to imagine two players off a four-win team going that high in the Draft. Time will tell how this situation plays out.
