Tom Brady and his NFL future are going to be the talk of the 2020 offseason. And as long as the four-time Super Bowl MVP remains a free agent, rumors regarding his future are going to run rampant.
When it comes to the business of NFL rumors and breaking news, there is nobody better than Adam Schefter of ESPN. According to Schefter, the latest front-runner to land Brady will come as a surprise to most NFL fans.
Schefter recently made an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show and had this to say:
“This [Brady’s future] is going to be the most interesting question of the offseason,” Schefter explained. “This week Jeff Darlington came on my podcast, and Jeff Darlington is a lot more connected to that particular situation than I think a lot of people realize. And in talking with him yesterday, my eyes were opened to this, I mean I always thought this was possible, but I got even more of a hint that it’s even more possible than I had ever imagined. Jeff Darlington basically handicapped the [Tennessee] Titans as the favorite right now.”
I was like, ‘whoa!’ I knew that Tennessee was an option, but he made it out to be more of an option than I realized it could be. In his mind, to rank the teams right now it would be Tennessee, then Las Vegas [Raiders], and New England.”
Brady’s most obvious connection to Tennessee is their head coach, Mike Vrabel. Brady and Vrabel were longtime teammates in New England, and there is an established mutual respect between the two.
Schefter went on to point out that Brady ending up on the Titans could be tricky, and it would require a major gamble on Tennessee’s part.
“The real interesting point on Tennessee is this: They have Ryan Tannehill,” Schefter said. “If you franchise Ryan Tannehill, then it’s very hard to go get Tom Brady. Do you take the risk of not franchising a guy who played like a franchise quarterback last year, and try to get Tom Brady, running the risk that you might lose both? Or do you go ahead and franchise Tannehill and remove the Brady option off the table when it certainly sounds like it’s a possibility?”
Tennessee is more viable as a potential Tom Brady destination than we thought. Tennessee I expect to be in the mix, Las Vegas I expect to be in the mix, I think the Chargers will try to be in the mix – I don’t know if they’ll be able to get it done, and of course the question is, does he go back to New England?”
Only time will tell how this situation plays out, but this much we know: Brady will have plenty of suitors this offseason.
