Adam Schefter is the best in the business when it comes to breaking major NFL stories. And on Monday night, the renowned ESPN insider laid out the framework for a story involving New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady that would send shockwaves throughout the National Football League.
Here’s the clip from ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown show leading up to the Patriots 33-0 victory over the New York Jets on Monday Night Football:
Sure, Schefter is speculating here. But this could very well be a case of “where there’s smoke, there’s fire,” especially when you consider Schefter’s lengthy track record of having accurate inside information.
Brady’s trainer, Alex Guerrero, is the legendary quarterback’s right-hand man, and the fact that both of them are selling their New England-area houses at the same time does seem a little fishy.
And let’s not forget, there was reported turbulence within the Patriots organization over Guerrero’s role and access to the team, as well as the amount of influence he had over Brady and other players.
Schefter also pointed out that Brady, who has always been willing to structure his contract in ways to help the Patriots salary cap situation, has now set up his contract to void after this season to become a free agent.
After Schefter presented his evidence, Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young, one of Schefter’s co-hosts, went on to point out how rare it is for a player to play his entire career with one franchise.
With all that being said, it’s still hard to see Brady playing anywhere besides New England. This scenario is something worth noting in the back of your head, however.
In my eyes, the more likely scenario is that Brady is simply preparing to ride off into the sunset with his supermodel wife and children and retire following the 2019 season.
Stranger things have happened, though.
Nothing special from me today. I just enjoy your wordsmithing.Kim Zietz
