Betting odds for where Deshaun Watson will play in 2021

By now, it’s no secret that Deshaun Watson is extremely unhappy with how the Houston Texans have approached hiring a new head coach and general manager this offseason.

While it hasn’t happened yet, many well-connected sources around the National Football League believe it’s only a matter of time before Watson forces new GM Nick Caserio’s hand and demands a trade. And if he does, it’s a safe bet that there will be multiple teams ready to ‘sell the farm’ for a shot at acquiring the former Clemson star.

Our friends at BetMGM have responded in kind and established a betting market for where Watson will play in 2021.

Here’s how they see this all playing out.

Denver Broncos (+1100)

The Broncos’ search for a franchise quarterback continues. Drew Lock showed some nice things in 2020, but he is far too inconsistent and turnover prone to be viewed as ‘the guy’ in Denver.

Like a couple of other teams on this list, the Broncos have a talented roster but a major question mark at the most important position on the field. New GM George Paton has all the say in what will happen, and if he has a shot to land Watson, it’s hard to imagine him passing that up.

Chicago Bears (+1000)

The Bears declined Mitchell Trubisky’s fifth year option, but still may end up bringing the embattled quarterback back on a prove it deal. If it were me, I would end the Trubisky experience ASAP, and whatever it takes to find a quarterback option that can keep up with the overall talent on Chicago’s roster.

It would be costly, but the Bears would be foolish not to make a play for Watson.

New England Patriots (+900)

The Cam Newton experiment produced mixed results for the Patriots in 2020. If they can upgrade to a player of Watson’s caliber, you better believe they will do it.

Bill Belichick has a close personal connection in Houston (their new GM), so I’d be surprised if the six-time Super Bowl winning coach doesn’t at least call to see what it would take to land Watson.

Miami Dolphins (+350)

The Dolphins are another team that will undoubtedly kick the tires on a potential deal for Watson this offseason.

Miami owns four picks in the first two rounds (thanks to the Laremy Tunsil trade with the Texans), and while they are saying all the right things about Tua Tagovailoa, there is no denying the former Alabama star didn’t exactly impress during his rookie campaign.

In a move that would appear to be straight out of Draft Day, the Dolphins could conceivably send Tua and Houston’s original draft picks (and likely a little more) back the Texans in exchange for Watson.

New York Jets (+300)

The Jets have the most assets at their disposal when it comes to putting together a package that could entice the Texans to deal Watson. The Jets own five picksin the first three rounds, but it will be their two first round picks — No. 2 overall and No. 23 overall (from Seattle via the Jamal Adams trade) — that could end up getting this deal done.

Quite frankly, if the Gang Green can land Watson for No. 2, No. 23, and a future second or third round pick, it would be a steal, and it would definitely ease the sting of losing out on Trevor Lawrence.

Houston Texans (+125)

The Texans remain the favorite to retain Watson in 2021 (he is under contract, after all). That could change when/if the three-time Pro Bowler demands a trade.

If I had to make a guess, I believe Watson will have a new team in 2021.
