Broncos pass-rusher Von Miller will not be facing charges for criminal allegations after a nearly two month long investigation by the Parker police in Colorado.
The case began on January 15, when the Parker Police announced that they were investigating Miller, but never said what the investigation was for. The Parker Police then turned the investigation over to the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office on February 23rd. There was thought to be enough evidence to charge Miller, but that didn’t seem to be the case.
Spokesperson for the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, Vikki Migoya said in a statement, “Based on our review of information that is currently available, we cannot meet that standard and must decline to file charges in this case.”
According to Denver 7 KMGH -TV’s Chief investigative reporter Tony Kovaleski, the Parker Police were investigating claims of domestic abuse by Miller. This news came after a woman named Megan Denise posted horrific messages on social media that were allegedly from Miller. The messages included Denise talking about her pregnancy that was connected with Miller.
Once the news came out that the Parker Police would be investigating Miller, Denise posted a statement on social media saying, “at no point in our relationship was there any type of physical abuse or violence by Von.” Denise also added, “Von and I are excited to be welcoming our baby into the world, and are committed to raising our child with love and compassion, together as a family.”
According to Kovaleski, Miller has lost multiple endorsement deals due to this investigation.
Miller is entering the final year of his massive 6-year deal worth $114 million with $70 million of it guaranteed. The Broncos have the opportunity to ask Miller to restructure his contract so that the team can free up more cap space this offseason. Miller currently has a cap hit of $22.2 million and a $7 million team option which the Broncos have until March 16 to decide on.
Denver general manager George Paton said in his appearance with the media this week that, “We do want to bring Von back.”
Now that the case is over, this gives the Broncos more breathing room to make a decision on if they’ll ask Miller to restructure or allowing him to test the free agent market. Releasing Miller would save Denver $18 million in cap space.
The Broncos have big a big decision moving forward.
