The Denver Broncos injury riddled defense suffered a huge loss during their 23-20 win over the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 13.
On Monday, the team announced they are placing defensive end Derek Wolfe on Injured Reserve, ending his 2019 season. Wolfe suffered a dislocation of his left elbow.
The injury came in the last minutes of Sunday’s matchup against the Chargers — a game in which Wolfe had 2 sacks and 5 tackles.
Following the game, Wolfe tweeted this photo showing the gruesome injury:
The injury-plagued Denver defense suffers another huge loss with Wolfe out. Bradley Chubb, who suffered a season ending ACL injury in week 4, was the first key component of the Broncos’ pass rush to have their season prematurely ended. Von Miller, who sat out the Chargers victory with a knee injury, is listed as questionable heading into Week 14.
When it came to Miller’s questionable status, Vic Fangio said on Monday, “I haven’t gotten any update yet today, but I do think there’s a good chance he’ll be able to go this week.”
This season Wolfe has recorded a career high 7 sacks, leading the Broncos defense. Von Miller, a close second, has 6 sacks on the year.
Fangio praised Wolfe for his play this season saying, “[He] played good. He was where he was supposed to be with the right mindset. He played physical. I don’t know this for sure — you guys probably do — I think he had a career high in sacks, which for a guy at the stage of his career speaks to his resiliency and the work that he’s put in [and] the effort he was playing with.”
The Broncos will travel to Houston to face Deshaun Watson’s AFC South leading Texans on Sunday. The Texans will be looking to continue their win streak after an impressive primetime victory against the New England Patriots on Sunday night.
