Denver Broncos standout wide receiver Courtland Sutton will miss the rest of the season after suffering a torn ACL during Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The buzz around the Broncos facility was that Sutton’s injury appeared more serious than what was being reported after the game.
Mike Klis of 9News Denver mentioned that he understands that it’s more than just a torn ACL.
Sutton’s injury came as he was chasing down Pittsburgh cornerback Joe Haden after he intercepted a pass that went right through Sutton’s hands in the second quarter. The Pro Bowl receiver left the game with three catches for 66 yards.
Sutton made his 2020 debut Sunday after missing Denver’s Week 1 game against the Tennessee Titans with a sprained AC joint in his shoulder. It was clear the Broncos’ missed the star wide receiver after scoring just 14 points against the Titans.
Per James Palmer of the NFL Network, the Broncos are expected to fill Sutton’s void in-house.
This now means that the Broncos will roll with a trio of rookie wide receivers in Jerry Jeudy, K.J. Hamler, and Tyrie Cleveland, and mostly untested veterans Tim Patrick, DaeSean Hamilton, and Diontae Spencer.
Not only is this the biggest blow to the Denver offense yet, but the Broncos will be without quarterback Drew Lock for the next 3-5 weeks according to Fangio. Backup QB Jeff Driskel will be stepping up, with practice squad QB Brett Rypien being elevated to the active roster
Sutton joins a long list of injuries for the Broncos that includes Lock, Phillip Lindsay, Von Miller, A.J. Bouye, and Dre’Mont Jones.
