Perhaps the biggest, most tradition altering change to the 2020 sports year came when The Masters was moved from it’s long-standing spot on the calendar (the first full week in April) to November 12-15.
Fortunately for golf fans, Masters week is basically here, and the field hasn’t been dramatically altered due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic across the country.
It’s time to look at the latest odds to win the 2020 green jacket.
The first thing that stands out to me is the fact that defending champion Tiger Woods is considered a longshot at +3300. Woods hasn’t been playing particularly well as of late (by his standards), but thanks to the ‘Tiger effect’ sportsbooks will likely have an enormous liability on the five-time Masters champion at that number.
With that being said, here’s a look at the golfers with the best odds to win the 2020 Masters.
Odds courtesy of BetMGM as of November 7, 2020.
Rory McIlroy (+1200)
Will this finally be the year Rory completes the career grand slam? Time will tell, but he does have the skillset to conquer golf’s most iconic course if he can avoid a catastrophic round — something that has become the norm for him at Augusta.
Justin Thomas (+1200)
Thomas went on an absolute tear this spring, and it’s no secret that he really wants a green jacket. The 27-year-old has vowed to be more aggressive at Augusta, and has as good of shot as anyone on this list to come away victorious in 2020.
Dustin Johnson (+1200)
If I’m being completely honest, it makes no sense that Johnson has yet to win at Augusta. Like Thomas, DJ has played some amazing golf in 2020, and he has finished in the top-10 in his last four Masters appearances (with two top-5 finishes).
Jon Rahm (+1000)
It’s only a matter of time before Rahm notches his first career major victory. Will it come at Augusta next week? He will have a very good chance if he can avoid any meltdown holes .
Bryson DeChambeau (+750)
DeChambeau notched his first major title at the 2020 U.S. Open, and has revolutionized the sport since coming back from the PGA Tour’s COVID-19 caused hiatus.
Bryson’s distance off the tee gets most of the attention, but for him to win at Augusta, he’ll have to be great on and around the greens.
