Laviska Shenault is once again burdened by nagging injuries as the Colorado Buffalo will reportedly undergo core muscle surgery according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Sheanult ran a lackluster 4.55 forty at the Combine Thursday, and then opted out of the second heat. His day at the Combine had officially ended. It appears as if the injuries sustained to his core muscles and pubic bone had bothered the receiver more than previously thought.
On February 12th, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Shenault would not require surgery after being diagnosed with osteitis pubis, or an inflammation of the pubic bone.
Shenault’s agent Damarium Bilbo said rest is all that was required for the Colorado standout to recover.
“That’s been difficult because of his competitive nature and he has been waiting on this moment,” Said Bilbo.
The surgery’s timeline will sideline Shenault for 4-6 weeks, inevitably missing his pro-day slated for March 12th. It is unclear whether Shenault will get another chance to run for scouts before the April 23 draft day.
With the University of Colorado last season, Shenault was a bright spot for the team catching passes and taking snaps in the wildcat package. In 11 games he racked up 6 touchdowns and 925 yards from scrimmage despite season long nagging injuries.
During his three years at Colorado, Shanault battled through foot, shoulder, core muscle, and groin injuries—missing just four games in the last two seasons. Toughness has never been a question for Shenault, but this surgery will more than likely cause him to fall in the draft.
CeeDee Lamb, Justin Jefferson, and the tandem from Alabama (Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs III) are projected to be the first receivers to be snagged up. If Shenault is able to convince teams his health will not be a factor come training camp, he could move into the first half of the first round.
