The Minnesota Vikings are locking up their star running back Dalvin Cook for the foreseeable future.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Vikings and Cook agreed on a new five-year deal worth $63 million, including $28 million guaranteed. Pelissero reports that Cook will also receive a $15.5 million signing bonus.
This move comes as no surprise, as both sides had been trying to get a long-term deal done for quite some time.
Cook is coming off his most successful season to date. The former Florida State standout rushed for 1,135 years and 13 touchdowns — in just 14 games — after scoring just four in his first two seasons. Cook also excelled in the passing game last season, catching 53 passes for 519 yards (9.8 yards per reception).
Cook joins Christian McCaffrey and Alvin Kamara as the latest running back from the 2017 draft class to cash in.
Heading into his second year under the offensive tutelage of Gary Kubiak, who’s moving to offensive coordinator, don’t be surprised if the young running back continues his dominance in 2020.
