After months of speculation, the Denver Broncos have finally landed the player they hope can be the franchise quarterback they’ve been seeking since Peyton Manning retired following the 2015 season. Head coach Sean Payton and General Manager George Paton made the call and selected former Oregon quarterback Bo Nix with the No. 12 overall pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft on Thursday.
Nix began his career at Auburn before transferring to Oregon for his final two seasons. The 24-year-old is more experienced and widely considered to be more mature than most players entering the NFL from the college ranks.
At his introductory press conference on Friday, Nix was asked what he knows about Denver as as sports town. Here’s what he had to say (via Denver Broncos media relations):
“Especially this past year, watching [Nuggets C Nikola] Jokić and the Nuggets tear it up on the court, I love watching basketball. I always enjoy it. I grew up playing it, so now I feel really excited to be able to go watch them play hopefully soon. I know the Avalanche are really good, I hear. I’m not necessarily a huge hockey fan, but I’ll watch a game—or match. I don’t even technically know what it’s called… (laughs) I’m excited to just embrace it all. That’s what I was able to do at Oregon. You go around and you watch other teams and support the city. Not just the organization and the teams, but to be around for the rest of the city and just show up because ultimately on Sundays, they’re going to show up for you. So that’s what I’m excited about, and I’m definitely excited to see the other sports teams.”

Like the rest of Denver, Nix will be spoiled as sports fan.
