The NFL trade deadline came and went. Here’s a look at the five deals that were completed before the clock ran out.
While the New York Jets remains winless, they traded linebacker Avery Williamson to the Pittsburgh Steelers along with a 2022 7th-round pick. New York will receive a 2022 5th round pick.
For Williamson, the trade was more than welcomed.
Pittsburgh was in need of linebacker help after they lost Devin Bush to a season-ending knee injury.
According to ESPN the deal was pretty much agreed to before Sunday’s games.
The Jets continue to stock up on draft picks for the future after making multiple trades before the trade deadline. New York will now have 18 total picks for the 2021 and 2022 NFL Drafts.
After Sunday’s loss to the Denver Broncos the Los Angeles Chargers decided to trade defensive back Desmond King to the Tennessee Titans for a 6th-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Tennessee currently ranks 27th in passing yards allowed in the NFL and with their playoff run, they are going to need to add some depth to that secondary. The Titans could be facing the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs as well as the Steelers or Ravens.
King’s contract will make him a free agent after the season unless Tennessee wants to give him an extension before the season ends. The former All-Pro will have a cap hit of just $1.1 million this season.
The New Orleans Saints needed more help in pass coverage from the linebacker position so they made a deal to acquire Kwon Alexander from the San Francisco 49ers on Monday.
San Francisco will receive linebacker Kiko Alonso and a conditional 5th-round pick in return. Alonso has yet to play this season after suffering a knee injury back in January, but has returned back to practice this past month.
The 49ers are please with their depth at the middle linebacker position and were willing to move on from Alexander’s contract to clear up some more cap space.
Alexander has dealt with multiple injuries in his career, but could add some real help for New Orleans’ defense.
San Francisco has attempted to trade Alexander multiple times dating back to immediately following their Super Bowl loss, according to Ian Rapoport of The NFL Network. Every time the 49ers have tried moving the linebacker, he’s had injury issues forcing, San Francisco to hold onto him.
The New England Patriots are in dire need of help at the wide receiver position, so they sent a 2022 seventh-round pick to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for Isaiah Ford.
Ford will help replace Julian Edelman in New England’s offense.
The Chiefs have a logjam at the running back position after acquiring Le’Veon Bell. In response, they dealt DeAndre Washington and a 2021 seventh-round pick to the Dolphins in exchange for a 2021 sixth-round pick.
The hope is that all the affected players can play this week, but with all of the new COVID-19 rules, that may be unrealistic.
