Tom Brady has been the target of jokes and hatred from Denver Broncos fans for years. Why? It’s simple, really. He’s been the direct cause of anguish and frustration amongst Broncos Country — and that’s putting it lightly. To the shock of not only Denver, but New Englanders alike, there are rumors floating around that Brady may become a member of the Denver Broncos by next years time.
Several national media members have suggested that Brady may be departing from New England at the end of the season. Contributing factors to the rumors include Brady and his personal health guru Alex Guerrero putting their New England area houses on the market, and Brady voiding his contract beyond the 2019 season, setting himself up to be an unrestricted free agent next offseason.
Peter King from NBC Sports recently talked with Boston’s WEEI Sports Radio about Brady’s future in New England. When talking about potential suitors, King says, “it’s apparent that they [Denver Broncos] semi-soured on Joe Flacco and he didn’t play very well when he was healthy for Denver. John Elway needs to win right now and so I wouldn’t be surprised if that happened.”
King goes onto say that the two most likely homes for Brady if he were to leave would be the Chargers and Broncos.
“Denver would provide him with Mike Munchak who is one of the best offensive line coaches in recent history,” says King. “I would feel comfortable knowing that Munchak would figure it out in a way that would at least get him through a season healthy.”
On Wednesday NBC Sports Patriots Insider Tom Curran published a column documenting many of the reasons that would lead to a Brady exodus from New England. He notes the several pay cuts Brady has taken in order to secure talent on offense, and that talent has struggled this year.
“Do they agree on an amicable divorce because of one irreconcilable difference? Brady believes he can still play at a high level, the Patriots don’t want to take that on faith and don’t love the idea of throwing $25M at the position so Brady can follow that muse,” says Curran.
The Broncos have plenty of experience when it comes to acquiring star quarterbacks in their twilight years. Peyton Manning took the team to two super bowls, winning one, while Joe Flacco and Case Keenum obviously didn’t work out as well.
Could Brady be the next Peyton Manning in the Mile High City? Time will tell.
