The Kansas City Chiefs have been crowned Super Bowl LIV champions, now, to quote Bill Belichick, it’s on to 2020. And the biggest storyline heading into the coming NFL offseason is: where will Tom Brady be playing in 2020?
In the hours leading up to Super Bowl LIV kicking off on Sunday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Las Vegas Raiders are planning to pursue Brady if the four-time Super Bowl MVP does not reach a contract agreement with the Patriots prior to the start of the league’s free agency period.
“One of the teams expected to be leading the way if Brady gets to free agency is the Raiders, whose coach, Jon Gruden, is a long-time admirer of the three-time MVP and six-time Super Bowl champion,” Schefter wrote, “The two have a good relationship, and league sources believe that Gruden, who is known to be a highly effective recruiter, wants Brady on the Raiders.”
Schefter added:
“What the Raiders could give Brady, aside from vast adoration and appreciation, is a sturdy offensive line that includes former Patriots offensive tackle Trent Brown, as well as a running game led by rookie Josh Jacobs, and a receiving game that features Darren Waller, Tyrell Williams and Hunter Renfrow.”
Brady has been linked to the Raiders for the last month or so, with rumors circulating of him buying property in Nevada, photos surfacing of him with Raiders owner Mark Davis at UFC 246 In Las Vegas, and tweets like this all coming to the forefront.
With all that being said, the Patriots still have to be considered the overwhelming favorites (for a multitude of reasons) to re-sign Brady this offseason.
This will be an interesting story to follow and watch develop, but it’s still very possible that Brady and the Patriots reach an agreement before the six-time Super Bowl champion even hits the open market.
