As one of the best players to ever suit up and play in the National Football League, it’s safe to say Terrell Davis knows what he’s talking about. The Hall of Fame running back turned NFL Network analyst recently joined UNMUTEABLE! The Woody Paige Podcast, and discussed his former team, the Denver Broncos, at length.
When asked what the Broncos have to do to get back to winning and competing for Super Bowl titles, Davis had this to say:
What they have to do to get back is what they’ve done. You have a quarterback in Drew Lock. We saw what he did at the end of the [2019] season. I’m excited about Drew. I think if you’re a Broncos fan you have to be excited about what you saw. We saw a young, sort of gunslinger. I like the way that his teammates respond to him. His personality – he’s got that energy, he’s got what we call the ‘it’ factor. He’s a guy that when you step on that field, you want to play for. He’s going to play for you, and give you all he’s got.
And now you throw that in with Jerry Jeudy at receiver, you’ve got [K.J.] Hamler, you’re gaining speed in the draft. You’ve still got Courtland Sutton, the big receiver there, you’ve still got Noah Fant. So the weapons that I see the Broncos getting, they brought in Melvin Gordon from the Chargers, they’ve still got Phillip Lindsey. They are trying to match strength on strength (with the Chiefs). And that’s what you have to have.
It is no longer saying, ‘our defense is going to hold the Chiefs to 20-25 points.’ It is now a game where we have to outscore them, we have to battle them and go point-for-point. Any team in our division [AFC West] has to deal with that. I know John Elway is building this team based on that. I’m encouraged by it. I’m juiced up. And our defense is going to be good – we got Jurrell Casey from the Tennessee Titans. Not many people realize how good that dude is.
The Broncos have been a popular choice to be one of the NFL’s surprise playoff teams in 2020 among national media talking heads (one prominent commentator even predicted Lock would contend for league MVP honors). Needless to say, Davis is also clearly on board the Denver Broncos hype train heading into the 2020 season.
