Just when you thought golf couldn’t be any better, it just did.
The Match III will take place on November 27 at the Stone Canyon Golf Club in Arizona. This charity golf match will include Peyton Manning, Charles Barkley, Stephen Curry, and of course Phil Mickelson.
Manning and Mickelson appeared in the second edition of “The Match: Champions for Charity” back in May in which they raised $20 million in for COVID-19 relief. In The Match II, Manning teamed up with Tiger Woods and defeated Mickelson and Tom Brady.
The third edition will air on TNT after The Match II ranked as the highest-rated golf event ever to appear on cable TV. That’s right, it had higher ratings than the U.S. Open, PGA Championship, and The Masters.
Barkley is already guaranteeing a win since he will be paired with Mickelson. Manning will be paired up with Curry, who is an excellent golfer.
With Barkley being known for his horrific golf swing, it only made sense to pair him with the three-time Masters Champion.
Curry is widely considered to be one of the best golfers among current professional athletes (non-golfers of course). The three-time NBA Champion has appeared in many celebrity amateur golf tournaments over the years and has played well. Curry missed most of the NBA season after breaking his hand in a game against the Phoenix Suns. With the Warriors missing the playoffs and not participating in the NBA bubble, Curry had plenty of time to get some extra swings in this summer.
Two-time Super Bowl Champion Peyton Manning has been known to golf a lot since retiring from the NFL. While still living in Denver, Colorado, Manning golfs quite a bit with his close friend and former teammate Brandon Stokley. Expect to see Manning break out his own customized golf balls with the number 18 on them.
Reports have said that there will be “cart cameras” to follow the four while they’re mic’d up. The format will be alternating shots for each player. Fans will not be allowed to attend just like The Match II.
So, when you’re done shopping on Black Friday and still full from your Thanksgiving dinner, get another plate of leftovers and tune your TV to TNT at 3:oo p.m. ET.
This will be can’t miss television, I guarantee it.
